What to Expect as a DM
The Gridiron Competition is designed to test your metal as a DM. You will have a limited timeframe to create and and up to four hours to run an original scenario for up to four players, using “ingredients” that you will be given at the start of the event.
You can interpret these ingredients and utilize them in your scenario however you wish.
You will be rated by your players (and in case of a tie, by the judges) using several criteria. You will be provided with a sample scorecard with these criteria at the beginning of the event.
You must provide the judges with a one page summary of your scenario and a map at the end of the Gridiron DM competition. Keep in mind that in case of a tie from player scorecards, the summary and map will be used by judges to help determine the winner.
You are responsible for providing the materials you need. You may use any official WotC rulebooks and source materials. You may not use any third party source materials. You may create your own monsters, magic items, etc. provided you detail them in your written summary.
You are free to use game play accessories such as miniatures, maps, initiative trackers, etc. These do not need to be official WotC products. To accommodate players at the table with adequate room for play, you’re restricted from using three-dimensional terrain, such as Dwarven Forge, HexTech, or any large foam, plastic or resin terrain modules.
All contestants are required to abide by Ettin Games posted Code of Conduct prior to, during, and following the Gridiron DM competition.
